As we headed south toward La Rochelle and over on to the Ile de Re, we were determined to avoid having to drive for too long each day, hence the stops to our destination and on the way back. Initially I had thought of Rennes and Nantes as possible places to stay overnight but it was apparent that we might have more joy in sticking with the sites best rated in the apps and in avoiding having to drive through busy cities.
As a result, we then came across this beautiful spot where we stayed overnight free of charge. There were no real facilities other than a compost toilet nearby but the town was lovely and the lake and grounds were similarly beautiful. I was just amazed you could pull over and stay at places like this for nothing and the beauty of the motorhome is having all you need anyway.
We took a stroll into the town and got ourselves some groceries and later, having enjoyed our first main meal cooked on the van, we walked to a local bar where they were showing the England women playing their semi final, quite a testament to the appeal of the tournament. Joseph got chatting with a young lad called Gabriel and we felt we were finding our feet in France.
I think it was then we started watching DVDs at bedtime, maybe the first one was Liar, Liar. It became a routine and we enjoyed Armageddon (twice), Carry on Screaming (twice), Nanny McPhee the Return and others which I have forgotten for now.
