Bridie made a platinum pudding, the trifle which had won the competition run by Mary Berry, or at least headed by her. That's what Evie is eating in the first photo. The village came together with almost 150 people attending the celebrations on the green and it was a fun afternoon for us all. The weather was warm and sunny, unexpectedly, and we had a few drinks to help the occasion along.
Face painting, bouncy castle and silly races gave the afternoon some shape and there was traditional music played too. It was a throwback in time, very much redolent of decades ago when kids could run around safely, having fun with the minimum of supervision, and when people had more time together in these social occasions.
It was a great afternoon and for people who have little time for the royal family, we have embraced the weekend fully and found it worhtwhile doing so. Joe and Kate and the girls came along and stayed the night, as did Bridie and Joseph. Joy came along for the party as well and Sandra came later and spent the night.
Alison and I enjoyed the Party at the Palace concert in the evening and could even watch some acts I would never normally have chosen to endure! It had a very positive mood about it and spoke of a more relaxed and inclusive country where we are good people united by more than the divisions which are so routinely heaped upon us by those who seem to want to sow discord and hatred. It was a Britain I recognised from the Olympics in 2012 and so good to see after all the hardships of recent years and the culture wars which are all the populists have right now.
