The children were all back at school after a very busy half term packed with visitors, day trips and jubilee fun. That meant Alison and I were able to get back into routine somewhat but Maria has picked up an additional dance lesson on Monday evenings which means another lift home and then onto dance. It was quite useful as I needed to get the strimmer back to the allotment at Wimborne and therefore I took myself off there before picking Maria up.
There is not a lot to do in some ways now that the plots are filled and plants are making progress with plenty of water available with the pretty constant rain we've had, at least getting some almost every day. That means keeping the grass down and weeding are the most important jobs, along with picking. There are more broad beans on their way, the garlic is nearly ready and then there is the spinach and chard.
Once I'd finished there I went for a run in the warm sunshine and found it a real chore. I was quite quick but it wasn't much fun! I was gasping by the end and it was only 5km.
I also took Maria to dance and used the hour to walk Juno, a new location for us in the woods on the castleman trailway and the photos above show where we were in terms of spectacular views from high up.
Of course, the big news was Johnson up for confidence vote which he survived but with a major blow to his authority. My predictions are reliably hopeless but it is hard to see him leading the party to anything other than heavy defeat in two years. Let's hope so but I would rather he were gone now. It is the way he has diminished the office he holds and the way in which his needs are paramount. It feels entirely at odds with the concept of public service.
