Despite feeling very tired after a long run and so much exercise yesterday, I was out on the bike this afternoon and ended up doing around 18 miles but it was a pleasure.
However, to start with, the photo at the end is from a dog walk when I noticed a line thick with ants across the path, teeming with them across the entire width. I'm not sure why they were there in such numbers or what their purpose was and there didn't seem to be anything on either side to explain it. As luck would have it though, hilst looking at this I was drawn by the sound of screeching to see a couple of sparrowhawks tangling in the air in the field next to me which was a very fortunate sighting.
The ride took me through Edmondsham to Wimbrone St Giles and almost on to Sixpenny Handley but I stopped several times to enjoy the countryside, especially the river views which meant I got to see a pair of grey wagtails darting out into the air just above the water's surface to catch flies, three buzzards soaring overhead together, goldfinches, moorhen and plenty of corvids, rooks, corws and jackdaws picking over the marshy fields.
The river had plenty of trout too and you might be able to pick one out in a photo. With the sun shining and no traffic around, it was just about perfect.
