I was hoping for a dry day having planned to visit both allotments but it was not to be. The rain and drizzle hung around vrtually all day with just the odd respite but I still managed to get on with things in spite of the weather.
Juno and I did almost two miles at breakfast time taking us to Remedy Oak golf course again whilst I listened to the poetry podcast Frank Skinner does. I was then waiting for a guy to come and collect our old roof box but I noticed there was a crack on the underside of the box which must have happened when the box blew off the shed roof where it has resided for the past couple of years. Storm Eunice has cost us a fair bit in the end, in this case because I no longer felt able to accept payment for the box.
Having informed the potential buyer he decided not to worry so I am just going to put it on Freecycle.
I drove to West Moors and went for a 5km run listening to audible, Cranford on this occasion, and got very wet indeed. I was off road a good deal of the time and so was pretty filthy too. The motorhome shows its worth again in having a change of clothing, a fire and plenty of space to wait and dry out and so I was quickly feeling ready for a coffee before popping into the farm shop next to this new plot. I also found a rubber type poncho I used on the 51 mile walk last May when I realised it was going to pour all day.
I was on the allotment in the drizzle, raking and weeding, sorting out the compost and taking over a couple of stools so we can have a seat on occasion when at the site. There was no one else around this whole time. It really is just about ready to go and is shown in the photos with the raised beds.
From there I was off the QE to park up ready to collect Maria a few hours later, and walked down to the Wimborne allotment where I did more preparation and clearing. The ground is pretty soaked, as you might imagine after the storms and generally wet weather of recent weeks.
Having collected Maria, I was then off to Cranborne Middle to collect Joseph from his singing club which meets after school on Thursdays. I am feeling tired now but can't help looking at the latest from the Ukraine. It is heatbreaking and there seems to be nothing we can do in the short term other than help the refugees, supply limited amounds of weaponary and cheer from a distance. It will be much longer before we can see the lasting outcomes of the war and it is doubtful to be good news for the people of Ukraine for many years.
