Swanage in the heatwave

Having just arrived back from a fortnight away, it made sense to keep up the pace with a motorhome trip to Swanage to take advantage of the summer sunshine with lots of family. Myself, Alison and Bridie had Maria and Lily, Evie and Amelia and Joseph in tow, along with Juno who deserved a day out with us after having to miss out on our recent excursion.

It was certainly hot but we had a great time once we had trekked the way down to the dog friendly side of the sandy beach. In doing so, we stepped back in time to a great family day out which could have been anytime in the last 50 years. There's nothing quite like a seaside trip to bring back memories and to remind ourselves that children play like they always have done.

The drive to Swanage is over an hour in the motorhome but well worth it for the parking and for the atmosphere of the place. The beach is lovely and sandy and the sea was comfortable after weeks of good weather. We used the inflatables and played lots with the children on a safe beach and generally had a great time.

It wasn't over yet though and I soon had them fed at home with a simple curry to be followed later by a fire with the opportunity to enjoy a baked potato as darkness fell and to toast some vegan marshmallows, all of which went down very well with the girls who then stayed up to watch for shooting stars. Lily got to see her very first one!

Beach walk

We all seem to be ill. Maria's dance showcase on Saturday evening was great but since then it has been downhill. Alison has been in bed...
