Wales - the Gower Peninsula

Alison and I took a trip to Wales for three nights in the motorhome at Pitton Cross campsite toward the end of August. We have wanted to go to Wales for many years but this is the first time we have actually managed it, thanks to Bridie for taking Maria with her to Weymouth camping with Joseph and friends.

The drive to Gower was about 5 hours and included stops for lovely little Juno who was brilliant throughout the trip. The campsite itself was good with nice pitches and lovely walks, although the roads in wither direction were busy and lacked pavements meaning it felt unsafe going out walking that way. It would have been good if there had been a bar or similar closer to the site but you can't have everything.

We got down to Rhossili beach which was fantastic. It was good to be able to catch the bus from the campsite entrance, as saved us taking the van down the narrow lanes. I managed a swim in the warm waters, murkier than those in Bournemouth and on a beach littered with massive jellyfish. However, that was more than compensated for by the immense space, the family friendly nature of the place and the pleasure of watching groups playing games and just having a traditional day out.

On the way back through we had a drink at a pub and chatted with a couple of locals and saw for ourselves just how poor the toilet facilities are there. I'd read it on reviews of the place but they were totally inadequate. However, the views of the Worms Head were great and most evocative.

The next full day saw us in the van to St Eynon where we had a lovely walk with Juno despite the duller weather.

The location really is beautiful and we had a relaxing and enjoyable time.
