Following home school, I was keen to get out and about as much as I could before the light went which meant a dog walk down to the woods where Maisy and I collected a rucksack full of fallen branches and twigs for the wood burner. There was no one else around, possibly due to the light drizzle, but the mud which has churned up just before the footbridge across the ditch and into the woods, suggests it is a well used walk at present. I had to carry Maisy through the mud - she would have simply sunk into it and disappeared, squelchy and claggy in different places.
The next activity was a litter pick from home up to the crossroads and back. There was a bag and a half of rubbish along the way, mostly the usual fast food rubbish and drinks cans, but there was also the plastic backing from someone's wing mirror and a length of strapping which looked like it was used to tie down a load on the back of a truck. I was able to dump that in the bins up at the village green rather than having to lug it home.
Once back I was ready for a short run, 3 and a bit miles, wearing the cheap new trainers I'd bought to allow me to get back off road. I didn't want my nice running shoes ruined in the mud and puddles but missed going off road. It was good to get back into the woods and tracks, slower than on the road but with lovely views.
