It wasn't the Christmas period we'd expected in the end for a number of reasons but we did have a lovely Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing with plenty of time with many members of the family.
This year the coronavirus meant things were always going to be different but we werenot expecting Bridie to be informed by a friend on the morning of the 25th that she had tested positive for the virus which resulted in Bridie leaving after a few hours sat outside by the fire pit and having the self isolate for a further week, the contact being about three days prior to the positive test. Joseph spent the late afternoon and Boxing Day with his dad which left the rest of us to enjoy one another's company and to make the best of the festivities, which we did to good effect.
However, another problem quickly came into view as my mum was unexpectedly admitted to hospital in Stornoway on Christmas Day. It was a surprise as she had sounded upbeat and well the previous day.
Things got worse a couple of days later when the doctor rang to advise it was serious enough to warrant leaving everything here and travelling to the Isle of Lewis, in spite of the coronavirus restrictions.
