Verwood enjoyed the unexpected sensation of two wins on the spin at the weekend in glorious sunshine at Potterne Park. We were at home to Burley in a crunch game with both teams in the bottom 3. Having never won a game against them, we were not altogether confident but we were very determined as the season more or less depended on the result.
We chose to bat first and hit 154 having been 31 for 3 until Chris M and John D put on 93 albeit fairly slowly. It was difficult to tell how good a total it was as the pitch was not easy to bat on. The last 5 wickets fell for 15 as we threw the bat in the final 3 overs. I managed a splendid 2 before trying dislocate my shoulder in hitting the penultimate ball for 6, missing and being bowled.
Dan and I opened the bowling and it was just like old times. I took 2 for 28 in my 12 overs, Dan 4 for 26 in his 12. Despite having 5 (5!!!) catches dropped off me, the opening spells were enough o win us the match. Burley were eventually out for 88 making out 154 look very impressive. One more win will see us safe from relegation it appears and with two games to go and finding some form, perhaps we'll do it.
Glen is playing in a friendly for the first time on Wednesday against Witchampton. I'm looking forward to the game.
