Rome - Day 2 Evening

Once we'd gone back to the hotel for a rest and shower, we collected the boys and went back into the centre of Rome. The tram takes just a few minutes and 5 minutes walk away is the Pantheon which you can see in the second picture from the bottom. The first picture is of the fountain the piazza and incredibly there wasn't anyone in the way for that photo. The remaining photos are from the Paizza Navona which was once the centre of Rome.

The Pantheon has a large dome with an opening at the top through which comes the only source of light in the building. Unbelievably, in the midst of all the tourists, the building still serves a religious function and was being used for a wedding. The guests looked like extras from the Godfather. I just can't get away from the stereotypes!

The Piazza Navona is always busy and is surrounded on all sides by restaurants. Above them, the buildings tower into the blue sky, the windows closed behind wooden shutters. It is a place full of buskers, mime artists and painters. There were several of those young people stood absolutely still e.g. robot, businessman, statue of liberty as well as an old guy playing Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson and using his fingers for a puppet of the Prince of Pop complete with moonwlaking etc. It was terrible! But he was earning plenty.

These links certainly add more than I can explain about the sites we visited.

We found a restaurant which again catered for both Joe and Glen with their vegan and gluten free diets. The waiter was fantastically helpful and once again we were visited by the traditional accordion players and rose sellers.

Beach walk

We all seem to be ill. Maria's dance showcase on Saturday evening was great but since then it has been downhill. Alison has been in bed...
