Damselflies mating today - they are large red damselflies and the female is more marked with the black bands apparently. I think you could tell from the picture though.

I saw some blue ones a week or two ago and looked up what they were upto. Apparantly, the male is the one who is on-top and has got the female around the neck with a rather fierce looking bottom-clench.
